HISTORY of VOGS

Vijayawada obstetrics and Gynaecological society was born on 14th of August 1993 at IMA building.

Dr T .Sarojini, by then retiered Professor and HOD at Guntur medical college was the founder President and Dr K Prabha Devi ,then Assistant professor of GGH ,Vijayawada was founder secretary. The inaugural ceremony was a simple event .Thus began the humble beginnings of our society with just over 50 members. The society meetings were simple gatherings attended mostly by senior doctors of the city. The scientific deliberations were highly interesting & interactive. It is interesting to note that there were guest lectures by famous personalities like Dr Phillpot, Dr Duru Shaw, Dr Suresh S, Dr Osama Swaki, Dr Hema Diwakar.

Amongst subsequent Presidents Dr. R S Rama Devi was instrumental in taking our society forward in academic and social activities. She was longest serving president of VOGS. VOGS hosted the first the then united Andhra Pradesh state Conference in September 2006 with Dr R S Rama Devi as chairperson and Dr A Sasibala as organising secretary. Well over 1000 delegates from all over Andhra pradesh attended this conference. It was the first time in the history of VOGS that a profit was made in a conference, though a small one! The society saw more participation from the private sector and more members from other cities joining our society. The attendance at meetings was encouraging and it inspired the office bearers to do more & more. The trend continued under the leadership of subsequent presidents namely Dr. K Prabha Devi ,Dr K Gangadhar Rao. The tempo was maintained in the ensuing years.

In year 2013, VOGS under the president ship of Dr. K Gangadhar Rao and secretary Dr Ch Kavitha started to host “Swadhyaaya”,annual CME which attracts delegates from within and outside city.

Again in year 2015, First APCOG was organized under the president ship of Dr. R S Rama Devi and secretary Dr P Susila after division of Andhra Pradesh. The then VOGS organizing team took bigger stride to form new AP state body – APOG , which brought together Ob Gyn practitioners of divided Andhra Pradesh.

In the year 2017, under the president ship of Dr. A Sasibala and secretary Dr M Uma received its first award from then FOGSI president Dr Rishma D Pai for working towards improving womens health through “Nari Swasthe Pahel” programme

With this inspiration we further went ahead to host Yuva FOGSI south zone 2018

Finally to quote Stephen Covey, the author of Principle centred Leadership, An empowered organization is one in which individuals have the knowledge, skill, desire, and opportunity to personally succeed in a way that leads to collective organizational success. Vijayawada Obstetrics and Gynaecological society is indeed an empowered organization.
